The Cobras were formed in 1978, and commenced competition the following year in the B Grade of the Footscray District Football League. Between 1989 and 1992 they were members of the VAFA before resuming in the Footscray competition, which underwent an ostensible merger in 2000 with the Western Suburban Football League, which had been in recess since 1987. Albanvale has so far failed to achieve senior grade premiership success in this competition, with a losing grand final against Seddon-Yarraville in 2001 the closest it has come.
