HECTORVILLE (Norwood Districts)Current Affiliation: South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) since 1990 Home Ground: Daly Oval Formed: 1961 as Hectorville; renamed Norwood Districts in 1982; reverted to Hectorville on admission to SAAFL in 1990 Colours: Red, navy blue and gold Emblem: Hounds Senior Grade Premierships: East Torrens Football Association (ETFA) - 1967 (1 total); Norwood North Football League (NNFL) - 1969, 1974 (2 total); SAAFL Division Five - 1991 (1 total) The Hounds joined the East Torrens Football Association when they were formed in 1961, and remained in that competition until it merged with the North Adelaide Football Association in 1969 to form the Norwood North Football League. Having claimed their first senior grade flag in 1967 the Hounds promptly added another in the new competition’s inaugural season. They spent nine seasons in the competition, claiming another senior grade premiership in 1974. Between 1978 and 1989 the club competed in the South Australian Football Association. It underwent a name change to Norwood Districts in 1982 but reverted to Hectorville the season after crossing to the South Australian Amateur Football League in 1990. In the club’s debut season in the amateurs, still playing as Norwood Districts, the club achieved promotion from A6 to A5 Grade after reaching the grand final, albeit that this was lost by a hefty 14 goal margin to Walkerville. As Hectorville, the Hounds enjoyed a fine season in A5 Grade in 1991, ultimately claiming the premiership as a result of a grand final victory over their previous season’s nemesis. In the sort of high scoring shoot-out which typified the era, Hectorville won by 11 points, 21.13 (139) to 19.14 (128). This remains the club’s only flag triumph in any of the SAAFL’s top divisions.
