The Magpies were particularly strong during the 1950s, when they competed in the Mid Murray Football League. They contested the grand final five times during the decade for three wins. Another highlight was Stan Finn's achievement in kicking 105 goals in 1950 to become the MMFL's first ever century goal kicker. Three seasons later clubmate Dick O'Bree established a new benchmark with a tally of 118 goals for the year. Further MMFL flags followed in 1967, when Tooleybuc was edged out in the grand final by a single straight kick, and 1975 at the expense of Swan Hill. The 1980s and 1990s proved to be difficult times for the club, and it was not until 2003 that senior premiership glory was again attained. Swan Hill provided the grand final opposition, but the Magpies proved comfortably superior, triumphing by 43 points, 19.10 (124) to 11.15 (81). Where now? or |
